Hello everybody!

Can you please help me in connecting my PS2 to my wireless home network? My networking skills don't extend that much...

here's my network setup:

- I have a regular working wired windows XP desktop and a wireless vista notebook with wireless internet connection
- broadband router with active internet accesss
- admin access to the router and also to all my computers

I have tried Internet connection sharing through the ethernet card on the notebook, with manually assigned IP and DNS on the PS2. This worked for a day and but then after it stopped from working. Setting the PS2 to DHCP hasn't worked at all, through either the notebook or desktop.

is there anything else i can do? please help... :|

quick question - is your router wireless? are you going to connect your PS2 wired or wireless to the router?.. if wireless what wireless adapter are you going to use?

You don't have to to enable ICS on any computer - that's your router's job.

hi Maldita,

kenshin is right...you don't need to enable ICS on your network, since you have a router. Your router should provide ip address or connection to all computers or networking devices that you will connect to it.

* how will you connect your PS2?...is it via wired or wireless connection?
* if wirereless, what is the wireless adapter and have you already setup the wireless settings on your PS2?
* what are the wireless settings of your router?....e.g...ssid, channel, wireless security if enabled.
* does your PS2, set to obtain an ip automatically?
* how about the router?....is the DHCP server enabled?

hi kenshin!

yes, my router is wireless broadband router and i really like to connect my PS2 wirelessly to it.. you think its possible? i'm really clueless about it.... i have a wireless usb adapter that i can connect to my desktop and built in wireless adapter on my notebook.

i read on some forums that ICS will work and it did it work on my ps2 but just for a day... :cry:

1. Is the PS2 connected directly to the router or is it wireless? - when i tried ICS it is connected to the ethernet card of my notebook but i really would love to make it wirelessly though.. :P

2. Brand of the router? - my router is linksys broadband wireless router and i also tried my friends netgear broadband wireless router... both router just works for a day

3. IP address, subnet, gateway, DNS assigned on the PS2 - i i guess i'm getting valid numbers when i used the 2 routers because i still can get online

For the PS2 to connect, you need a wireless adapter for it. A Wireless adapter for computers will not work , you need a wireless adapter that does not require a driver or utility - you can use any wireless gaming adapter.

Here's what you need to do:

1.) Check the wireless settings of your router - SSID and the security settings.
2.) Configure your gaming adapter with the same wireless settings of your router (SSID and network key are case sensitive , so be careful when typing them).
3.) Set your PS2 to DHCP for the IP settings (under Network Settings)
3.) Test the connection - you may need to reboot PS2 and gaming adapter.

If connection fails , you may need to open ports on the router (best to contact router manufacturer to do this).

Also, make sure that your modem is set as a plain modem (no router or firewall feature). If you are not sure about your modem's settings - contact your ISP.

If you are not sure on how to set settings with your router and gaming adapter , contact the manufacturers. This will take time specially if they are of different brand - they will only support the device that they manufacture. Don't be afraid to experiment with the settings of your devices - there is always a reset button :D

If you want to connect your PS2 wirelessly to the router, then you should have a wireless gaming adapter for it. The gaming adapter should be configured with the same IP range of the router, SSID, and wireless security. Once the gaming adapter is configured, the PS2 will automatically connect and receive an IP address from your router, just make sure that the PS2 is set to automatically obtain an IP address. Then test the Internet connection on the PS2.

Then on your computers, just leave the XP desktop wired and the Vista notebook wireless to your router. Make sure that the ICS is not enabled on the Vista notebook since you said that you have connected the PS2 to it to share internet connection before. The router will be the one responsible in sharing internet connection for the computers and for the PS2.

For Playstation 2 (PS2) you'll need a PS2 console. If you have an older PS2, you'll need a Network Adapter and Network Access Disk (NAD). If you have the slim PS2, it already contains an integrated network connector so there is no need for a Network Adapter.
