 need help....
we have 5 ip addresses to use for our 5 pc. they have given us a modem and they told us to buy a switch so we can connect our computers to it. i purchase a switch but when we connected our computers it is not working. i try to check on the manual to check for any instructions on how to do it but it doesnt give us any help

You should assign each of the 5 PCs you have with the 5 IP addresses from your ISP after connecting them to the switch.

Wow... Thank you for the links! How about if I have a windows 2000 computer, do I just do the same instructions?

i read on the other forum site that assigning static ip address on pc is not necessary if i have a router is this true? if i use a router, will it also work on my network?

It does have an instructions how to assign a static ip address with Windows 9x/ME/2000 and XP.

Hi baby_bratz, What you read is true and you'll only need 1 IP address from your ISP. This means you can stop paying and ditch the other 4 IP address that your ISP gave you unless you have plans of using it in the future for some sort of server.

ok, so if i will get a router how can i configure my IP address to it? can i just get any router or is there any router that you can recommend?
