How to Quickly Turn Off Your Windows PC’s Screen

 

There are times when you need to almost instantly turn off your computer’s monitor to attend to other urgent or probably an emergency situation. We all know that there are some risks that may entail if we forget or intentionally do not turn off our computer screen. Someone else could access your important files or probably your personal data, or they could ruin an entire day’s work by mistake when going through your computer are just some of the consequences that may happen.

Below are several different ways on how you can quickly turn off your Windows PC’s screen, without harming your open programs or files:

OPTION 1: Use Your Windows Power Management Settings

You can create a custom setting that forces your computer to shut down the screen from this setting. To do this, follow these steps:

STEP 1: Go to your computer’s Control Panel, then type “change what the power buttons do” in the Search field at the upper-right hand corner of the window.

STEP 2: Under Power Options, click the Change what the power buttons do link.

STEP 3: Set your PC to sleep each time you press the power button by clicking on the drop-down menu.

STEP 4: Once you’re done, click the Save changes button.

OPTION 2: Set Your Power and Sleep Settings

Using the power settings is an efficient way to turn Windows PC screen off quick. It is especially useful when you have to step away from your computer at a moment’s notice. It works by setting the display off after a set period elapses. Here’s how:

STEP 1: Navigate to the Windows search, then type in “power & sleep settings” (make sure to use the ampersand “&” sign).

STEP 2: Click on Power & sleep settings from the search results.

STEP 3: On the next screen, click on the first two drop-down menus, then set them both to 2 minutes.

STEP 4: Do the same for the Sleep settings as well.

So the next time you step away from your PC, you can be assured that it will go to sleep after 2 minutes.

OPTION 3: Use a Keyboard Shortcut

Windows has a lot of built-in shortcut for many functions. There is also one that you can use for turning off your PC screen quicker. Follow the steps below:

STEP 1: Go to your desktop Home screen, then press the keyboard combination [Alt] + [F4].

STEP 2: Select Sleep, and your PC will turn off immediately.

OPTION 4: Use a BAT Script

A BAT script is an executable file for Windows. You can run it from the command prompt tool. You can use the script to turn Windows PC screen off, and it is safe too. Here’s how to do it:

STEP 1: Download the BAT file by navigating to this link.

STEP 2: Once you’re on the Script Center page, click the Turn off Screen.bat download button.

STEP 3: Save the file on your desktop.

STEP 4: Right-click on the file, then select Run as Administrator, and your PC screen will immediately turn off.

OPTION 5: Use the Dark Tool

Dark is a small tool that you can install to help you quickly shut your Windows PC screen and it requires installation. Once installed, it places an icon as a shortcut in your Windows taskbar.

Here’s how to use the Dark tool to turn off your PC’s screen:

STEP 1: Download and install the Dark tool.

STEP 2: Once installed, start or run the Dark tool.

NOTE: You will notice that an icon (monitor icon) for Dark tool is created on your taskbar.

STEP 3: If you want to turn off your PC screen, simply click on the Dark tool icon on the taskbar.
