How to Delete Game Cache on a PlayStation 3

PlayStation 3 automatically installs any necessary game data into its system folder called Game Data Utility whenever you play a game for the first time. The Game Data Utility folder is also where any patches or updates for the game will be saved. However, there are instances where you need to delete a stored game cache or patch data for a particular game. For instructions on how to do this, follow the steps below:

STEP 1: Press the PS button on the controller to access your console’s XrossMediaBar (XMB) menu.

STEP 2: Go to the Game section, then select Game Data Utility.

STEP 3: Once you have located and selected the game data you wish to delete from the list, press the triangle button on your controller to display the options menu on the right-hand side.

STEP 4: Select Delete, then select Yes to confirm, and then press X on your controller to complete the action.

STEP 5: Once you have deleted the cache data, you will be prompted to reinstall the missing data the next time you play the associated game.

NOTE: If the data you deleted is a game patch, you will be prompted to re-download it once you reconnect your console to the Internet. If you declined to do so, there is a possibility that you may encounter problems or errors while playing the associated game, since any bug fixes or updates for that game will no longer take effect.
