How to Use Your iPhone or iPad to Access Playback Controls for Your HomePod


Some people don’t prefer calling Siri every time to find out what’s playing, to adjust the volume, or to skip ahead especially if they’re watching the latest episode of a favorite TV show or listening to their favorite podcast. Below are the steps on how you can use your iPhone or iPad to manually access playback controls for your HomePod smart speaker:

NOTE: This procedure also works with Apple TV audio on HomePod.

Manually Accessing Playback Controls for Your HomePod via Your iPhone or iPad

STEP 1: On iPhone 8 Plus and older models, access the Control Center by swiping up from the bottom of the screen.

NOTE: On iPhone X, swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen as shown below.

STEP 2: 3D Touch or long press on the Now Playing panel in the Control Center.

STEP 3: Tap your HomePod Now Playing panel.

STEP 4: Tap the Play/Pause button to play or pause audio.

STEP 5: Tap or press the Skip Song button to skip to the next track.

NOTE: Be reminded that you can’t skip back to a previous track.

STEP 6: Drag your finger across the playback slider bar to scrub forward or back on a track.

STEP 7: Drag your finder across audio slider bar to increase or decrease the volume.
