You may encounter a problem in Windows 8 where you will receive this error message: “Windows cannot access \\<shared drive> Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found.” when you try to connect to a shared drive or access another computer on the network. If restarting your computer did not resolve this issue, perform the troubleshooting steps below:
OPTION 1: Run the Microsoft Fixit Utility
You can automatically reset the TCP/IP settings of your Windows 8 computer by downloading the Microsoft Fixit Utility here. Once the file is downloaded, run it and follow the on-screen instructions prompted by the utility.
OPTION 2: Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP Settings
STEP 1: On the Desktop screen, right-click on the lower left-hand corner of the screen and select Control Panel.
STEP 2: Click on Network and Internet, then Network and Sharing Center, and then click on the Change adapter settings link.
STEP 3: When the Network Connections window appears, right-click the connection your computer is using, then select Properties.
STEP 4: Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) from the list, then click the Properties button.
STEP 5: Click the Advanced button, then click the WINS tab.
STEP 6: Select Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, then click OK all the way through.
STEP 7: Close the Network Connections window.
